Western Edge Redevelopment Plan Community Meeting

lhealy June 14th, 2009

Fifth Ward Councilperson Peter Cunningham hosted a community meeting on March 19, 2009 to discuss the proposed Western Edge Redevelopment Plan and solicit feedback on how to improve the Plan. The meeting was held in the 1200 Grand’s Community Room. The City Council is close to approving this Western Edge Redevelopment Plan for an 8 block area near Shop Rite from 9th to 14th street along Monroe Street and Madison. This area is directly west of the existing NW Redevelopment Area. The plan proposes 1000+ high-rise residential units in 3 buildings with heights of 12, 14 and 16 stories. The plan fails to provide the park land called for in the Master Plan for this area and does not provide appropriate language to assure the proposed community benefits. A new website at www.HobokenWesternEdge.com created by residents of the westside who oppose the City’s plan and provides details on the plan.
